Learn More About LCSAP
LCSAP Coalition is set within a rural middle Tennessee town that rests along the Alabama State line, just north of famous Muscle Shoals, Al. and south of Nashville, Tn. Lawrence County is often recognized for its rich heritage of American heroes and icons such as the infamous Davy Crockett, Southern Gospel founder James D. Vaughn, politician/actor Fred Thompson and actor Michael Jeter. It is a community also widely known for its religious roots, agricultural and manufacturing based economy as well as its subcultural communities such as the Amish community and “The Farm.”
After some economic disparities following national recessions and business closures, Lawrence County’s long-term substance use disorder issues seemed to hit all-time highs in the early 2000’s. Following a town hall meeting and the hard work of then State Representative Barry Doss, County Executive T.R. Williams and other community leaders, LCSAP Coalition was established in 2016.
With the Lawrence County Government serving as the fiscal agent, the coalition is funded through the State of Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services Block Grant, the White House Drug Free Communities Grant and local in-kind contributions/donations.
Since its inception, the coalition has been successful in bringing together key sector representatives and citizens from all parts of the county to plan collaboratively and leverage their resources to address and reduce substance use disorder issues within the community particularly dealing in youth prevention efforts. We continue to grow LCSAP Coalition’s capacity in order to implement evidence-based strategies to promote long-term environmental and policy change.
